The Well-Stocked Sewing Box

Many people today never even think about sewing. Since clothing is relatively cheap these days, many would rather toss it in the trash before trying to mend a hole or reattach a button. Having a simple sewing box in your closet can help you make those minor repairs, especially if you don' t want to give up your favorite shirt.

Supplies For Your Sewing Box

How Small Business And Nonprofits Can Afford Multimedia For The Web

Multimedia is everywhere on the Internet, whether in the form of floating ads at major websites, streaming video or animated presentations. Of course, there is a good .....
The first thing you will need is a sewing box to store your supplies in. you can often find sewing boxes that are specifically made for sewers or quilters, but you don' t have to limit yourself to these types of sewing boxes. Tackle boxes or small tool boxes can make great sewing boxes. They usually have a lift out try, multiple compartments and locking lids so that if you happen to drop your sewing box, it won' t lose all of its contents.

A small pair of scissors is a very good addition to your sewing box. If you always have a pair in your sewing box, you never have to go searching around the house to find a pair. For mending and minor repairs, you don' t have to spend a lot on a pair of scissors. A pair of children' s school scissors works very well and is just the right size to keep in your sewing box.

A small pincushion with a few straight pins and a couple of needles inserted into the pincushion are another necessity. The pincushion will help you keep track of your pins and needles when you are not using them. the pins can help hold hems up as you are fixing them with the needle and thread. When it comes to thread, you will probably want a small spool of white, black and either off-white or tan thread. These colors should get you by for most repairs. If you need a specific color for a certain project, more thread colors are readily available just about anywhere.
Know Your Mission
One passage states "If you want to defeat them, distract them." Another reads "divide and conquer."

In the game of life there is a constant .....

There are plenty of other sewing items you could add to your sewing box, but unless you are sewing or mending fairly regularly, you probably won' t need to use many others. What items you will need will completely depend on the type of project you are trying to finish. Seam rippers, needle threaders, extra buttons, extra snaps, and a host of other items are not absolute necessities, but can make your job easier.

Having a stocked box in a closet can help you make those simple repairs that you otherwise might have just given up on. Generally, for small repairs, it really does not take that much time to sew on a new button or mend a hem.
