Now here' s an area that almost everyone assumes is the same thing, but it' s not. There are basic, major and unique differences between knitting and crochet.
What Is Knitting?
Knitting is the systematic looping of yarn through loops held on needles, working on simultaneous rows to fabricate a garment or other product. The loops are moved off the left needle and gathered on the right needle. Materials used are different kinds of yarns and two knitting needles.
What Is Crochet?
Crochet is a systematic looping of yarn through loops, done one at a time using a single needle with a hook at the end. The yarn is drawn through existing loops and generally requires more material than knitting, producing thicker items, less stretch than knitting.

Practical Applications
Knitting and crochet are both well suited for multiple clothing projects. Knitting lends itself best to sweaters, hats, scarves, ponchos and throws. Crocheted hats are stylish, but sweaters tend to be stiff. This is not a bad thing, just a trait.
