Gildan cuts 400 jobs in Ala., Va. (Montgomery Advertiser)
FORT PAYNE -- Canadian apparel maker Gildan Activewear Inc. said it will shift its U.S. sock finishing work to Honduras, eliminating 220 jobs at Fort Payne, known as the "Sock Capital of the World." It also is closing a Virginia Knitting plan with 180 employees.

Clarendon Hills church group knits for needy (The Doings Hinsdale)
Walk through the north entrance at Christ Lutheran Church and you'll see a Christmas tree that's quite unique. The tree is decorated with knitted hats and gloves, courtesy of the Clarendon Hills church's knitting ministry. The group, which consists of seven women from such nearby towns as Hinsdale and Downers Grove, is working to knit as many hats, scarves and mittens as it can.
